Joseph Barakat, Ph.D.
Joseph Barakat, Ph.D., Senior Consultant for Engineering Design, Fluid Flow and Species Transport, Materials Selection and Device Testing and Integration, Veryst Engineering, LLC.

Dr. Barakat consults on product design, performance, and scale-up based on his background in computational dynamics, biofluid mechanics, complex fluids, rheology, heat and mass transfer, and chemical reactions.
Dr. Barakat earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University, where he authored his dissertation on computational modeling of giant vesicles in microfluidic channels. Prior to joining Veryst, Dr. Barakat was an NIH Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Barakat’s postdoctoral research focused on understanding physical mechanisms of lung surfactant inactivation in acute respiratory distress syndrome, with a goal of developing new strategies for treatment and intervention.
